Hundreds of Local Teens Compete at 2011 CORE Teen Adventure Challenge

This adventure race challenges teens mentally and physically as they work together to complete a series of adventure elements and team building activities.

April 9, 2011 - Los Angeles, CA - CORE Educational Services, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has partnered with Champions, a leader in adventure programming in Southern California, to host the 2nd Annual CORE Teen Adventure Challenge (CTAC) at the Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas, CA.

Through CTAC, CORE promotes active and healthy lifestyles, uses friendly competition to unite communities, and redefines traditional power dynamics between teens and adults through play. The event exposes urban youth to the city, state, and national parks while also encouraging the private sector to support enrichment and education in public schools.

During the race, teams of four teens along with their adult team captain raced through a strategically designed wilderness course. In 2010, approximately 50 teams participated in the race. While CORE expected 100 teams this year, about 140 teams were sponsored, giving more teens the opportunity to experience this great adventure challenge. During the race, teams worked together using cooperative strategy and navigational skills in order to successfully pass through each adventure-based activity and teambuilding station along the course - including rock climbing, mountain biking, trail running, kayaking and rope swinging. CTAC is a rewarding and fun experience for all of the participants.

This year's winners were awarded with cash prizes and also received money to donate to a charity of their choice. CORE also rewarded teams for good sportsmanship and high spirit. Here are the results:
